2009: CCIDC Will Begin Using a New “Single” Certification for Interior Designers in California
April 24th, 2008
The board of the California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC) has announced that as of 2009, the CCRE and the three required national-level exams will be replaced with a single online exam. This is to open the doors of the interior design to younger designers in California.
For approximately the past eight years, students wanting to become a Certified Interior Designer in California have had to choose one of the three recognized national examinations (CQRID, the NCIDQ, or NKBA, along with the CCRE), which before then, there was only one national exam, recognized. Section 5800 of the Business & Professions Code spells out education and experience requirements that must be obtained in addition to passing these examinations.
The examination system was modified to make the California certification exam consistent with Section 139 of the California Business and Professions Code and to allow everyone a chance to take it if they qualify under any of the three education and experience classifications, as well as candidates with “experience only”.
In order to become a Certified Interior Designer all must meet requirements. CCIDC remains dedicated in continuing to accept national examinations that are current today, by offering the current CCRE for an extended amount of time.
