DIY Wind Power
October 19th, 2009
DIY (do it yourself) wind power can be achieved by anyone. To make a home windmill that can power most of your home easily, it will cost around $200 for materials. This is a very small investment in comparison to the amount of money you will be saving. The materials are all very easy to come by; you can get them at any hardware store. Many people do not believe they can save money with wind generators because they do not have enough wind where they live. Wind generators can be effective in most places, because only 6-8 miles per hour of wind are needed to be effective, maybe even a little less - and unless you live in a giant plastic sealed dome, the chances are, you most likely have enough wind in your area. Given that wind is a naturally occurring, free, renewable resource, the ability to make use of the wind for electricity generation makes it very useful in the current times of rising energy prices. Wind energy is best utilised in farms and rural areas. It may also work in ’suburbia’, but is unlikely to be much use in densely populated areas due to the increased number of obstacles preventing the free flow of the wind. There are two important prerequisites for the windmill:* Ideally the windmill should be erected on an area of not less than one hectare. The majority of parts required to build up these systems can be explored for free, such as storage batteries that are possible to explore out at any company using deep cycle batteries. When it comes to solar panels, you can
