So You’re A Writer, Eh? Ever Earned Any Money At It? Here’s One Way…

Copyright 2006 DK Fynn

The purpose of this article is to briefly outline how any writer, on virtually any topic, can earn money by simply posting one’s thoughts to a website. This particular process, which you can follow, is free, very simple, proven, and one you can start with as soon as you finish reading this article. I’m happy to report that with this method, there are no contracts or deadlines!

We The Writers

We’re writers. We write professionally, academically, recreationally, and for our own personal use. We write about a lot of different topics, from world issues to people who snore in the bedroom.

We have dreams of “getting published” someday soon, but regardless of outcome, we continue to create information by writing.

This is important to realize, so read closely: As a writer, you create information. I’m sure you know that, but it’s a point that this article is based on.

Why People Go Onto The Internet

Let me ask you a question: Why do you go onto the Internet? You check your e-mails, you surf, you check out what’s going on in the world, and so on. On the Internet, people do all of these things, and more, but do you know what is the #1 common reason why people go onto the Internet? In other words, what is it that people on the Internet want in general? Did you say communication? Close! The #1 thing that people on the Internet want is information. Whether it’s to communicate, download files, check e-mails, gossip, or surf, people do these things because they want certain information.

Remember how I said that, as a writer, you create information? Read on.

Enter the Blog

Do you know what a web log is? This is popularly known as a blog, which is one or more web pages featuring an on-going collection of written–or, in our case, typed–entries. A bit of a more technical definition is that a blog is simply one or more web pages that display entries. You can think of a blog as an on-going electronic diary, though it doesn’t necessarily have to be a diary. Just as you can write anything you want as a writer, as a blogger, you can type a blog entry about anything you want. You don’t have to always write on the same topic.

Let me tell you, blogging is very popular and well-established on the Internet. Various figures, as well as the more common folk like you and I, share news, ideas, and opinions through blogs. These blogs, or any blog for that matter, can become initiators of discussion, and on some blogs people can post replies. A blog can, in this way, become like a forum, except that blogs are usually open to the public.

Rest assured that with 6+ billion people on the planet today, and the continual expansion of Internet-connected communities, there is a very good chance that, no matter what topic you write about, there are people interested in what you have to say.

Though the main purpose of a blog is to share opinions, reactions, ideas, etc., blogs can also be used as portals. By “portals,” I mean that they can connect advertisers with potential buyers. A prime example of this is the phrase “Ads by Gooooooogle” that you see on some websites. When someone goes to one of these sites, sees one of these ads, and clicks on the ad, the webmaster earns a tiny profit for connecting the potential buyer to the advertiser.

Can you start to see a profitable picture here? Can you begin to see how you can share how your ideas an opinions for profit?

What if… …you had blog site, people came to your blog site, saw a Google ad on your blog, and clicked on the ad? You would have just earned money!

It’s that simple, my writer friend.

That is perhaps the most established way that writers like you and I can catch the blog wave and transform our information-producing passion into cash.

To be sure, you may not make huge sums of money in the beginning, but there seems to be an accumulating effect as time passes. It’s definitely worth an ongoing, consistent effort, which isn’t asking much if you’re already creating on-going information as a writer.

If you want a simple plan of action, here’s one:

1. Know what you want to share with other people. (You never know: someone could see something you’ve written on your blog, and approach you as an interested publisher.)

2. There are a number of providers, like Google, that offer free blog services. You can set up your own blog for free at one of these sites. You can begin your search for a free blog provider by typing “blog,” “free blog,” and “free blog account” into a search engine like Google. If you want to follow the plan outlined here, be sure that Google’s AdSense ads are compatible with the blog you choose.

3. Set up a free Google AdSense account. You don’t have to be an advertiser, seller, or buyer to do this.

4. Just follow all the instructions you get from these sites, and you’re set!

As a word of caution, this is the Internet, and cyber-thieves lurk around. Obviously, don’t freely share personal contact information or any other sensitive information. Also, to claim your information as yours, copyright your blog, just like I copyrighted this article. While this may not fully prevent unethical people from copying your work, it is a proactive precaution. (You can go to www.copyscape.com if you ever want to search for copies of your information.)

Notes on the History of the Piano

Musical instruments with keyboards have been evolving since 220 B.C. when a Greek engineer named Ctebius created the “Hydraulis” to demonstrate, of all things, the principle of hydraulics.

The Hydraulis led to the organ and a technical evolution of that instrument that has spanned centuries.

Meanwhile came more instruments based on the concept of multiple strings, hammers and keyboards. First was the dulcimer, a multi-stringed instrument played with hand-held hammers. It has been claimed that the dulcimer was invented in the 9th Century A.D. by Persian Abu Nasre Farabi, who called it a Santur. The dulcimer has even been called “the first piano,” but wait. The invention of the piano is most widely credited to the Italian Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655-1731) in the early 1700s.

By then, several more stringed keyboard instruments including the clavichord and harpsichord had come into play. The harpsichord couldn’t control the sound volume and the clavichord couldn’t produce the tone needed by the artist to perform in large halls. Cristofori had the solution.

Cristofori replaced the string-plucking mechanism with leather padded hammers. Now he had a keyboard instrument that played “piano” (meaning “soft”), and “forte” (meaning “loud”). This first piano was called “pianoforte.”

While Johann Sebastian Bach and others failed to embrace the pianoforte, Lodovico Biustini published “Sonate da Cimbalo di Piano e Forte,” the first work specifically for piano, in 1732. Yet nearly half a century passed before the next composer was to write specifically for the piano. It was Muzio Clementi, whose “3 Sonatas, Opus 2″ in 1770 triggered the emergence of the new playing techniques and styles of expression needed to master the piano.

The piano’s pivotal turning point arrived in the late 1770s when Johann Christian Bach redesigned it and more composers came forward with more music for the piano. Soon there were solo piano performances to packed concert halls in Europe and from there, the piano found its way to Great Britain and America.

Here the piano evolved from a fashionable status symbol in the mansions of the rare few to the mass assembly lines of Jonas Chickering and Heinrich Steinweg. Thanks to their industry, the public came to regard the piano as a necessary part of every American household in the late 1800s. Knowing how to play it was considered the best way to win admiration, love and respect, especially if you were a woman.

By now the piano had been through all manner of transformation: square, vertical upright, grand and variations of same, with all the accompanying technical changes. Piano design and manufacturing thrived in Germany, Austria, France, Great Britain and America. But at the turn of the century, just when the piano had achieved prominence as the primary source of home entertainment, oops, here came the movies and the phonograph. Not to mention the player piano, which “automated” what many piano owners couldn’t do. Then the gramophone and the radio took over where the player piano left off.

Renewed public interest didn’t hit until the 1930s when piano makers introduced the miniature upright. From there the piano has reached unprecedented standards of quality through significant technical and cosmetic change brought on by new materials, processes, techniques and innovative genius. Today this amazing 5,000-piece invention is not the household staple that it used to be, but it remains a solid investment and the treasure of those who find fulfillment in the piano as a means of creative expression.

Are there any more Spanish adventures in the future? “Seville is a dream, the blending of Spanish, Arabic and Northern African cultures.”

Jon Fritz-When it’s Over

Artist: Jon Fritz
Title: When it’s Over
Genre: Folk-Roots-Rock
Label: Independent
Website: http://www.jonfritz.com

The music of Jon Fritz is not easy to drop into a little slot of categorization. I call it folk-roots-rock to try to keep it as simple as possible, when in reality it so much more than that. This music touches your soul. The beauty of it flows through Jon’s acoustic guitar and dreamy vocals. You feel like you have found a long lost friend when you give this CD spin, it gives you the warm and fuzzies. Those of you that like the peaceful easy feelin’ (like the Eagles) sound will put your arms around this music and embrace it.

Fritz’s lyrics are as prolific as the music he makes, and that is the reason it hits you right in the old ticker. The first five tracks have you cruising right along on a mellow ride down the highway of emotions. Tracks like “Surrender” and “Still Dreamin’” put your feelings on automatic pilot then “Bitch” kicks in, and you hear all of this anger and darkness come lashing out, it has to be one of the most shocking transitions I have ever heard on an album, then it reverts back to what you found comfort in. I have a feeling the man must have been through a tough relationship recently or a divorce and needed to exorcise some demons, that is cool with me, it just really caught me off guard. If the purpose is to keep you on your toes and paying attention, it works Jon.

Fritz is obviously a very talented performer with an innate sense of song construction in his blood. His is a natural wordsmith, quite brilliant. The music is the icing on the cake. This is the type of CD that will continue to grow on you with every listen, if it does not I suggest you check the obituaries to see if you are listed.

Three Powerful Ways to Create a Must-Read Ezine

Publishing an ezine is the ideal way to reach your target market. How far your reach extends depends on the type of experience you create for your readers.

By giving your subscribers a value-laden, benefit-rich experience you can create an ezine with a loyal and eager following of dedicated readers.

Here are three powerful things you can do to create the type of experience your readers demand:

1. Let Your Readers Get To Know The Real You

My favorite ezines have a personality. The personality of the writer behind the words is what captivates my attention.

Every writer has a unique style, and when it is allowed to flow freely it can be quite contagious. Let the real you come through in your words. Let your style flow from your heart. Just be yourself and talk directly to your subscriber.

An effective technique is to visualize yourself writing to just one person. This person should fit the profile of your target group. If you’ve properly identified the wants and desires of your audience, you’ll find your writing style becomes more natural and flowing.

By using this model you discover the power behind the word “you”. You can never use the word “you” too much. You know what I mean?

This approach works even if you are the editor of a corporate or institutional publication. Your own voice is more effective, and affective, than an anonymous, ghost-like corporate voice. You’ll discover that the personal approach helps to bridge the gap between a reader and an otherwise impersonal entity.

2. Provide Solutions That Help People Reach Their Goals

Your readers subscribed to your ezine because you made a promise to deliver something of value. You must consistently deliver goal-oriented value to keep loyal readers.

You do this by giving people the tools and information they can use to make their own informed decisions. By creating an environment which seeks to inform, rather than sell, you establish a lasting rapport and an atmosphere of trust.

To put this into practice, deliver the value aspect of your ezine in the form of word pictures. Tell a story drawing on your personal experience and show how you were awakened to a solution. Paint a picture with words to describe the benefits or pitfalls you found by following a particular path.

Publishers who do this are regarded as trustworthy experts. Consequently, they create a following of subscribers who buy products and services based solely on a recommendation.

It is noteworthy, and should come as no surprise, that affiliate commissions are highest among those who use the products they recommend. They are in a position to comment first-hand on the benefits and solutions available in owning the product.

3. Let Your Readers Interact With Your Ezine.

You engage people more fully by allowing them to participate and interact with your ezine. Plus, this interaction lets you take the pulse of readers and find out what’s important to them. You can then tailor your content and marketing efforts accordingly.

Here are some ideas to get your readers involved:

> Take a poll. Invite your readers to respond to a short survey question. Provide a set of two or three responses from which they can choose by clicking on the appropriate link.

> Reserve a section of your ezine for reader feedback and invite people to email you with their comments. Personally respond to all email and reprint those which you feel are most beneficial for your readers.

> Have a section of your ezine devoted to reader’s questions. Respond in your ezine with thoughtful and insightful answers. This establishes you as an expert in your field, thereby enhancing the worth of your ezine as a source of credible information.

Put the above three principles to work for you and see if you notice a difference. Just keep in mind your reader’s desire for goal-based solutions, and let your must-read ezine be a source of must-have value and must-get benefits. You can’t lose!
